Because theoretically Daz Studio Iray can render forever. On the other hand, “ Completion” is for deciding when render will be considered completed. Default settings (on screenshot) mean that every 5 seconds it updates the picture if at least 1 sample were done from the previous update. The “ Update” controls how much this picture updates. When you press Render, you will see the picture that shows the state of render right now. Also there are settings for Scripts, but it is too advanced and only needed for a small amount of people who are making scripts. It is useful only when there are no other lights on the scene and should be turned off if there are. Headlamp is a tool that produces light directly from your camera view. “ Misc” or miscellaneous is mainly for controlling headlamp. “ Render Target” decides whether you would see the process of your render in the new window or it will just save the file upon finishing. Also here you choose the name of your render file. So if you are making an animation and need a series of images, here in “ Render type” you can change it from the default “ Still image”.
“ Destination” helps you to choose where your final render files would be stored and their type. For portrait pictures it would be 4:3 aspect ratio and so on.
So if you want a FullHD picture you would set Pixel size to 1920×1080 and Aspect ratio to 16:9. You can choose from many presets or set it yourself. Therefore, the best way to evaluate which farm is the right one for you is experience both iRender and Xesktop, test some frames/scenes and decide by yourself.In the “ Dimensions” you can set the size(resolution) and ratio of your render. The rendering time will vary in projects with different assests, settings, etc. Note: The test result is only for the reference because it is a quite simple test scene. Artists choose which render farm according to their needs, for who only care about the speed, iRender is perfect while Xesktop is more preferred for who want to optimize the cost. However, the price of Xesktop is more reasonable: $6/hour for 10x GTX 1080Ti, $8/hour for 8x Tesla V100, compared to the lowest $3.8/hour to the highest $28/hour of iRender servers. Overall, iRender ranks 1 in terms of rendering speed. 3 remaining servers of iRender (1x RTX 3090, 2x RTX 3090 and 4x RTX 3090), on the other hand, are slower than both Xesktop servers.
They both are faster than Xesktop’s fastest server – 8x Tesla V100. As we can see from the results, server 6x RTX 3090 and 8x RTX 3090 of iRender have the shortest time to render.
